About Dr. Aiah Lebbie

Captain (Rtd.) Dr. Aiah Lebbie was born in Kangahun Village, Gbaneh Chiefdom, Kono District to Mr. and Mrs. Lebbie Kuteh. After his primary education at the UMC school in his hometown, he proceeded to the Yengema Secondary Schools and The Prince of Wales, where he completed his secondary school education culminating into the GCE O’level and A’ level respectively. He entered the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2000. After completing his housemanship training, he worked in all regions of the country as a medical officer under the Ministry of Health & Sanitation, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), and the Catholic Diocese of Makeni. Dr. Lebbie left the country in 2006 to pursue postgraduate education and returned in 2013 as Specialist Paediatric Surgeon. He is currently serving as a pediatric surgeon at the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospital Complex-Connaught and the only Paediatric Surgeon in the country. He is also a lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of Sierra Leone.  From time to time, Dr. Lebbie also travels to the provinces to perform surgeries on children of all ages at no cost to the patients’ relatives. Dr. Lebbie was awarded the Medical Practitioner of the year 2019 by All Walks of Life (AWOL).

The citation for Dr. Lebbie’s recognition by Chozen Generation Sierra Leone as one of the ten most outstanding Sierra Leoneans in 2020 reads: “FOR BRINGING HOPE AND HEALING TO CHILDREN THROUGH YOUR ENORMOUS SARIFCES AS THE ONLY PEDIATRIC SURGEON IN THE COUNTRY”.
